My pink metallic Sorrento

Hey, all

I seek the Wisdom of the Forum.

I have a sweet '96 Sorrento that's a very cool rose/pink metallic finish (pic attached). However... I've never seen that color mentioned anywhere. Is it just a Silver Metallic that turned color, like Gibson's old Pelham Blue used to turn green?

Anybody know - or have a good opinion?

Hey Doug, the Blue Book lists the Sorrento Reissue (Model ETSO, MSRP $999) as available standard with Antique Sunburst, Cherry, Ebony, Orange, and Vintage Cherry Sunburst finishes. But they were also available (probably as special order) with Black Metallic, Metallic Light Blue, Burgundy Mist, and Turquoise. My guess is yours is Burgundy Mist.

98% mint condition value is listed as $500 + 10% for the rare colors.

You don't see a lot of Sorrentos around, and even less of the special finishes, so I'd hang on to that one.

Thanks for the info, Brian. You're right - it sure looks like it should be Burgundy Mist.

The Howard Roberts next to it was sacrificed along with my IBJL Casino to fund the purchase of the '66 Gibson ES-330 in my avatar pic. I bought it stripped of its original pickups and added Linday Fralins with an underwound neck PU, which sound great... but I have to say that the stock Epi P-90's on the Sorrento really hold their own next to the Fralins. Not quite as detailed, but with a platform added under the bridge PU to raise it, they have a great sound of their own. I was going to sell the Sorrento soon because I'm playing the 330 more, but every time I play it I chicken out. I think I'm going to listen to you and hang onto it. Thanks again.

That 330 is really nice, can't blame you for trading the others in.

Just out of curiosity, what did you get for the Howard Roberts? I've always kind of admired those guits - Gibby and Epi versions.

I think I got $400. Took several turns on EBay without a bid, though.

Sweet guitar - great neck. It was my last attempt to own a deep body guitar. Just not comfortable for me - gotta have the thinline.

Dang, I wish I'd known, I'd have bought it from you.

Whether or not to sell that Sorrento is a tough call. I'm in somewhat the same boat, with a near mint wine red '04 Peerless Casino that's been replaced by a new 330L. Thinking long & hard about moving the Casino. Given the rarity of your Sorrento, I'd probably be inclined to keep it.
