tazzboy
Matching Tubes is only for Power Tubes with same grade. Preamp tubes you can mix up a bit. There is however, no need for balance tubes either cause most if not all tube amps are unbalanced.
tazzboy
Man, this thread now makes me scared when i have to change my tubes on my amp. It's not as hard as it sound. Watch some of Bob at Eurotubes.com How to bias video http://www.eurotubes.com/euro-video.htm
Riverside
... since that is partially the reason for adjusting the Bias to begin with to average the idle settings of tubes that aren't exactly matched... As if it would make a whit's difference in an amp constructed of parts that had 20% tolerances. Those things were designed to withstand the variations present in tubes of the day - they certainly weren't installing matched sets in the factory. Tube matching and even power tube bias adjustments were not very common back in the day.
