Old Jazzer
I know absolutly nothing about Epiphones. This guitar is a beauty. If it plays as good as it looks, It goes to the top of my wish list. How great would it look next to my L5.
RobinTheHood
It looks like a Howard Roberts 175 L5

Old Jazzer
Thanks Brian for the info. Is there anything similar to your post for the 175 L5? Randy
brianh
Thanks Brian for the info. Is there anything similar to your post for the 175 L5? Randy, the Blue Book lists the following models in the Epiphone ES series: Dot; Dot Studio; Dot 1965 Elitist; ES-175; ES-295. No mention of a 175 L5 model although that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it could have been a special limited-distribution model or something. My guess is that the model in the picture is either a limited run or a prototype Howard Roberts. Either way, it's definitely a Howard Roberts model, here's a link to a previous discussion: http://forum.gibson....__1#entry912245 And another: http://forum.gibson....__1#entry917490 Also, here's a "real deal" '69: http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item48409cc5eb Oh and here's that OP pic again since ImageShack yanked yours:
RobinTheHood
No mention of a 175 L5 model ... My bad. I had my Howard Roberts stuff all mixed up. Not sure where I got that. Maybe just a mixup when I was entering data. fixed. The guitar in the pic is quite different though. Like Pete said, The first fret and the headstock with the Tree of Life inlay. It is also missing the fretboard inlay at the 19th fret. Also the bridge is different as well as the tailpiece. The sound hole looks bigger too. The pickup seems to hang off or butt up to the edge. Different pickguard too. The SE and CE have the Gibson style. The knobs seem positioned similar to the SE.
Supersonic
The red one on the "Jazz Chord Bible" book is the exact same guitar that's in the 1999 Epi Catalog. In fact, I think it's the same pic. What years did they make them in the 90's? Also, some were made in Japan and were part of the "Imperial Series" right?

The ones we brought up were from the 1960's. I think you may be on to something, Supersonic! Good catch!
