charlie brown
Oh...Jimi borrow licks, from a lot of his hero's, too. But, he was quite the showman, and used them, in original ways, as well. Little Richard was said to have chastized Jimi, a bit, when he felt Jimi was stealing his thunder, as a showman. All those blues licks go way back...some are from "slide" players. BB King developed his signature style, and vibrato, (in his own words) "from trying to emulate his cousin, Bukka White's slide style." Some, aren't even guitar licks, but borrowed from sax, and trumpet players. Eric made "blues" even more acceptable, to white audiences, because he was white and English! And, an amazing player, of course. EC's a pretty good writer, too. And, I think his singing voice, now...is better than ever! The Rolling Stones, Animals, Yardbirds, and other British bands, helped bring back "the blues" to White America, as well. They took over, where Elvis had left off, more or less.
