I have an old gibson 1948 lg-2 acoustic guitar that was handed down to me from my Grandfather some 27 years ago. I was probably too young for it when I got it, even though back then I didn't think so. I have always treasured it but over time I have lost a couple of parts to it. I lost the label out of the inside with the serial number on it I think with a vacuum attachment....stupid... and I am missing a black plastic bridge pin. and also the strap button on the butt of the guitar bottom. There is about a 1/4" hole there and was wondering if I can still get one of those push in strap buttons that would be close to the original. After all these years I am finally trying to get this thing playable again which I will go into later. Does anyone know about this???Were all gibsons like this in that era??

Your LG-2 never had a paper label on the inside. It should have a Factory Order Number ink-stamped on the back of the neck block. Look inside the sound hole, towards the neck. For 1948, it should have a four-digit number, which may be followed by a space, followed by a one or two digit number ink-stamped or ink written. It should also have "LG-2" ink-stamped on the inside back of the guitar, on centerline, just below the soundhole.

Bridge pins and heel pins are expendable items, and have little influence on the value of the guitar, as it is virtually impossible to tell if they are original. If you want to play this guitar, you should probably consider getting bone bridge pins and a bone heel (strap) pin from Bob Colosi. Go on his website to determine the bridge pin size. The heel pins are more or less standard in size, but the bridge pins are not.

It's good to see you taking an interest in your grandfather's guitar.
