RobertoCarlosMX
Hi, I have a 2001 Sheraton 2 and it had a sticker on the Pickups that said: New Designed by Gibson "Double Vacuum Wax Dipped" What kind of pickups are this? Thank you.

Blueman335
Open up any high-quality American humbucker, and there's very little wax in them, and some of the best (like Duncan's SH-55 Seth Lovers) are unpotted. I swap magnets in a lot of my PU's, so I open them up and see. You just don't need much wax, it's overkill and muffles the tone. I upgrade all my Epi PU's to American-made (Duncan, DiMarzio, Gibson, Rio Grande, Fralin, Lollar, etc). If you're going to keep the stock PU's, pop the cover off and scrape out all the wax you can (and even after that, it'll still have more wax than a American PU). Check out eBay for used PU's, they usually go for half price. The biggest improvement to an Epi's tone is upgrading the PU's; it does more than everything else put together. Trust me, I've got a lot of Epi's.
