MHM49
I purchased this guitar a couple of years ago. Does anyone know anything about this model, and why it has both GIBSON and EPIPHONE on the head? If you have a guess to its value I would appreciate that. SNick
Try this link for info about your guitar. As far as price. It's worth whatever someone will pay. I know that's no answer, but search past sales if possible. on the net. http://www.epiphonewiki.com/index.php?title=Sheraton
MHM49
I appreciate all of the knowledgable responses..... however, I did not see any examples of both the EPIPHONE name and the GIBSON name embossed on the Headstock? Is that unusual?
RobinTheHood
I appreciate all of the knowledgable responses..... however, I did not see any examples of both the EPIPHONE name and the GIBSON name embossed on the Headstock? Is that unusual? If you look here (same page, under the Sheraton II entry) you will notice the first guitar in that entry is an "Epiphone By Gibson" sheraton. As Pete stated they were made from 1986-1988. The "E by G" branding was just a way for Epiphone to try and boost interest in the brand by attaching the Gibson name. These guitars were made shortly after Epiphone moved production from Japan to Korea. Many (most) of the Japanese Epiphones of that era had a reputation for poor quality and this was Epiphone's way of trying to shake off that image. After they discontinued the "E By G" headstocks, many models had "Gibson" branded truss rod covers for the same reason. This was much cheaper than inlaying "Epiphone By Gibson" in mother-of-pearl on the headstocks. Although the "E By G" logo doesnt mean there is any difference in build quality compared to the post 1988 models, many people like them because of the curiosity factor and the fact that they were only made for three years. This doesnt mean that they are neccessarily rare because quite a few turn up here. But they are less common than the typical "Epiphone" branded headstocks.
