A new Ibanez AFJ81 and Gibson Jazz Guitars

I just received one of the brand new Ibanez AFJ81 jazz guitars. Now before you cease to read this post understand that I have owned and played Gibson jazz guitars from the late 1960's through to just recently for years. I on the one hand am incredibly happy and very sad at the same time. To be very honest this AFJ81 is what Gibson jazz guitars USED to be like right out of the box so to speak. Absolute INCREDIBLE workmanship and PLAYABILITY right out of the shipping carton. If you are interested I will give you specifics however I do not want to bore you on this e-mail with specifics here. My e-mail is at the bottom of this post so you can e-mail me offlist. I have played D'Angelicos from the late 1940's to the 1950's. The workmanship on this guitar is frankly much better than any Gibson that I have ever had out of the box and I have had many. VERY sad that NO Gibson ever came this way out of the box. And to end this post this Ibanez AFJ81 came in for just under $600 to boot. AND people wonder WHY we need a new President!? jim in Maine e-mail: (jimhahn@rocketmail.com)

WTF? This is the weirdest post I've ever seen on any forum, ever.

And how is Obama, or a new president, going to have any effect on Gibson's quality?

The answer is very simple my friend. Gibson has produced gorgeous guitars over the years save for the late 1970's or so. Our present government led by Obama and Eric Holder have seen it fit to HARASS Gibson with the issue/nonsense of rosewood fingerboards on their guitars. So you ask what does this have to do with the presidency of my USA? In one word everything. If Obama gets re-elected heaven help the rest us of us forgetting about guitars which will be the least of our problems. I believe that frankly there is really no need to bring politics into a guitar newsgroup but in this case I made an exception. Sorry that you posted 'WTF' but on the other hand you live in a socialist society which is exactly what Obama wants here in the USA. Well enough politics now will talk about guitars. jim in Maine

Oh yeah I forgot to answer your question on 'how would a new President affect Gibson's quality'? ALOT and I will leave it at that. IMPROVE IT as a new President will stop trying to dictate to a great company what is 'correct'. And I do mean DICTATE! jim in Maine

Blah, blah, blah...

In case you hadn't noticed it, jimmyl51, this is traditionally where people discuss Gibson's 'Historic Collection' instruments. The hint is at the top of the page - where it says 'Historic Collection'.

Have you anything, either positive or negative, to say about a Gibson 'Historic Collection' instrument?

If so please say it. If not please bugger off, there's a good chap. Trolls are a nuisance. Idiotic trolls (comedic value aside) even more so.

Would you even put it above the rant by that utter imbecile who declaimed he really, really wanted to like King Crimson but then spent half a page saying how shite they were?

:-k

It's a close call, farns.

You said it yourself. This forum is about the Gibson Historic Collection of instruments. I for one do hope that the issue of replacing the rosewood fingerboards with artificial material is in time resolved so we again will see Gibson Historics with true rosewood and NOT make believe rosewood material. jim in Maine
