Anthony Wade
It's a Gibson g-3. The serial number is 847004 and it says "Made In U.S.A." Right under that. I don't know what useful details to get into to help discern the make date. I've already tried looking up the serial archives, and it seems the early 70's are notorious for unorganized serializing. Any help is much appreciated!
BobB
That serial number range was used on instruments built between 1973-1975. One fact that nails down the production year for your bass is that the G-3 was introduced in 1975.

Abaddon
Another way to find out is to take the neck off and check for an ink stamp. Here's mine i'm rebuilding.Mine says dec 18 1975.
