beekun
Any ideas on the value of this 1961 SG (S#30308) with a rather unique factory installed tremolo?
retrorod
It is hard to tell from the pic what type of tremolo that it is? The guitar appears to be a nice example of a SG Special. I cannot tell about the 'factory-installed' trem from the photo however... Could you post a close-up? The 2013 VG price quide puts it at 4K if its 'straight-up'.....But with "the economy"....Its doubtfull...Do a search on Ebay.
beekun
The SG is one i bought in 1970 from the original owner for $60. I saw a picture of the tremolo on an Epiphone Coronet and it was identical. I think this might be part of a short run or a special order or something. The only tremolos i have ever seen on SGs are that crazy sideways thing and Bigsbys. The guitar is in beautiful condition. I have taken really good care of it. stein
The trem makes it really tough. Conventional wisdom on these things would say it's far more likely the trem is not origonal. And if it is, it might be a dealer installed item, which would not really be "origonal' to most. That's going to hurt the value significantly. And if it is factory installed, proving it would be difficult, but worthwhile if you could. It is, for sure, interesting.
Ryan H
If there's any doubt as to whether the bridge is factory original, email Gibson at service@gibson.com and they may at least be able to confirm or deny whether they used that bridge at all. -Ryan
