HeadCase
First I'll say... guys, buy some books and/or videos on setups, it's really not hard... you can do it. My first "luthier" setup was a waste of money. I bought the books/videos and am saving time and money, not wasting it. Plus, I get it the way I want it, not the way somebody who doesn't care wants it. I actually enjoy doing it myself. I won't trust my gear w/ anybody as far as setups. B.S. hacks are everywhere. Here's what I do: remove strings, check/tighten all screws, clean/polish, clean fret board, oil fret board if needed, lube nut slots, new strings, stretch strings (if ya don't stretch 'em you're gonna be re-tuning a lot 'til they are stretched out), tune, adjust intonation, check/adjust truss rod (as needed for fret buzz, which goes hand in hand with bridge height for desired action), final wipe down. That's about it for setup. I think most fret/nut work requires lots of skill/experience, find a kick-*** luthier if you can. Nothing wrong w/ having someone else do a setup for you, as long as you're happy with it.
