Snapper Jones
I'm a singer/songwriter who has a J-45 that I love. I'm looking at adding another Gibson to the barn and wanted to get your opinion as to what model I should consider. I'd like to stay short scale if possible and would like to sound be a nice "different" sounding compliment to my J-45. Maybe something that could handle finger picking a little better. I'm not set on any particular wood combo, just something with a different sound than the J-45. thanks in advance.
JuanCarlosVejar
I take it you are in to Mahogany ? the hbird and J 100 both had that as a back wood . why not try and Advanced Jumbo (rosewood back and sides) or maybe a Dove (Maple back and sides) JC

EuroAussie
To me its a toss up between the Bird and the J-200 but on this day I gave it the big bottomed maple lady ..she handles fingerpicking much better than the Bird however.
mountainpicker
Not enough choices posted for me as I'd love to own a Nick Lucas or Nick Lucas re-issue...hell, since we're dreaming, I'd make it an old 13 fret Nick Lucas Special, maple or mahogany back and sides with an Argentine Grey finish. The idea of a smaller body with dreadnaught depth and a short scale length just sounds like the perfect compliment to my J-50 and J-45.
