New old Masterbilt review

Been playing my recent acquired DR-500 MNS.

Gave it a good cleaning, fret polish and finger board rub down.

Looking good.

I replaced the strings that came on it. They were old. One snapped as I was de-tuning!

Put on a set of Elixir Nanoweb lights. They feel awesome compared to what was on that felt like a cable from a drain snake.

The bridge pins were a little stubborn getting out and I buggered up a couple.

Where can I get newer ones?

The one thing that I need to change is the feel of the necks lower binding.

It's sharp. Too square of an edge that I feel when playing.

Would it be appropriate to knock the edge off with a little fine sandpaper?

Any reason why I shouldn't ?

This is my first acoustic guitar and I don't want to do anything to it that is wrong.

Liking it a lot..

Have a great weekend.

I cannot tell ya, but I'd wait till I got some advice, unless you're fairly well experienced, or if you're like my dad who wouldn't give a sh and just go ahead a fix it. Isn't there finish on the binding that you'd be dulling? What material is that binding? I'm surprised the problem is the binding, though. More typically it's the fret ends since the board's been a little dry. In either case, I'd just take it to my local tech. Ask around to see who's good in your area. As I now recall, I found the guy I go to from a recommendation on these forums! There was already a thread about him. Little one-owner guitar shop. Great guy. It's like I get a full lesson in luthiership every time I go there, haha.

Isn't the binding plastic? Thought it was. I could be wrong though.

I took a closer look with some magnifiers.

The first few frets lower edges are rough. Maybe they got nicked up a little or something.

That would be one of my guesses. Plastic doesn't sand very well, does it? It, like, turns to glue? Don't play up so high! [biggrin]
