Zentar
I have two Gibson humbucker PUs off a 2009 Studio which test at 8k ohms and 14.6k ohms. I think they are 490r/498t but don't really know. I am using SDs in my Studio now. I have different amps now than when I swapped PUs and I'd like to try the OEM PUs again in my Studio. Any guesses as to what these Gibby PUs are? Zentar
OK I may have found what this extra set of humbuckers are by Gibson. It looks like I have the 490/500T pair which is a total surprise with me. The 500t would probably be my last choice. No wonder I swapped for Seymore Duncan Hot Rodders and liked them instead. It had bugged me for 6 years why I didn't take to the OEM PUs on my Studio LP. I think I would have liked most any PU Gibson made except the 500t since Metal is not my gig. Does 8k ohm sound like the 496r PU or 490r? I'm assuming Gibson matches the 490 or 496 to the 500 but heck! Maybe not according to the Gibby Chart I just found: Gibson/Epiphone Pickups DC Resistance Values Gibson Burstbucker Pro (sim: BB1,Alnico5, potted) 7.4 KO Gibson Burstbucker Pro (sim: BB2, Alnico5, potted) 8.0 KO Gibson Burstbucker 1 (Alnico2) 7.5 KO Gibson Burstbucker 2 (Alnico2) 8.0 - 8.4 KO Gibson Burstbucker 3 (Alnico2) 8.2 - 8.8 KO Gibson '57 Classic (Alnico5) 7.44 - 8.5 KO Gibson '57 ClassicPlus (Alnico5) 9.0 - 13.8KO(the 9.0 appears to be a screw-up or faulty PU) Gibson Dirty Fingers (2xCeramic) 16.0 -16.6 KO Gibson Mini-humbucker (Alnico2) 6.0 - 6.4 KO Gibson 490R (Alnico2) 7.2 - 7.83 KO Gibson 490T (Alnico2) 7.9 - 8.53 KO Gibson 498T (Alnico5) 12.32-13.46 KO Gibson 496R (Ceramic) 8.3 - 8.63 KO Gibson 500T (Ceramic) 14 – 15 KO Gibson Angus Young (Alnico5) 13.5 KO Gibson Tommy Iommi (Alnico2+Ceramic) 16.5 KO I really don't know what the 8k ohm PU is. It tests as a BB but I never heard Gibson matching BB with 500T on Studios. I have no idea what the 8k ohmer is.

deeman
Then my 496r is 300 ohms low, and i am a jerk off troll I knew it! regardless, your meter could be off slightly or your pickup could be on the low side.

btoth76
Hello! These measurements are within the range for the 490R/498T combination. The 496R/500T ceramic magnet pickup combination is rare on Studios. I can't even recall a Studio model built with these pickups, any year. I remember the Faded Vs came with these. Cheers... Bence LOL! So apparently the hunt continues for what these PUs are. I remember seeing the website specs back in 2009 and the 490/498 were the ones I saw online listed in the day so I assumed they were 496/498. I've read also where guitar distributors were confused as to what PUs came on Studios that year. I'm sure Gibson used two different sets at least in 2009 However you do make a lot of sense suggesting these really are within tolerance ranges of the 496/498 for I never saw the 490/500 listed OEM on Studios anywhere back in 2009. In fact I'm seeing quite a lot of PUs which measure outside the normal range listed in Gibson spec sheets. In fact I'm wondering why we bother measuring PUs at all due to the wild differences in readings. In fact on P90s people report measurements 4K ohms higher than what book specs list.
