sebastian76
Hi there, I have a chinese Epi casino and, of course, it has the "epiphone tuners", but I wonder...Is it worth changing chinese epi tuners for a pair of Kluson SD9005MNDR tuners? or basically it's the same. (no real problem when tuning guitar and most of the time is in tuning). any improvement after installin Kluson tuners? (about the general sound) thanks a lot folks! kidblast
^--- if it aint broke,... don't fix it.. I think it depends on how old your guitar is.. The problem you will probably have with the older equiped tuners will be the hole sizes for the new ones. Chances are good they wont be big enough to accommodate replacement tuners. If you don't mind reaming those out to fit the new machine heads.. Eventually time will do it's thing and you'll probably have no choice (a lot depends on how much use they get).. If it was my guitar, I'd let it ride till I had to do something. I don't think the tone will change. Mythology tells us that more mass at the headstock somehow improves sustain.. I dunno, I've never changed a set of machine heads out unless it was time, and I go with direct replaces. (all my Epi's have grovers of one form or another)

I would love hear more about the myth between sound and tuners...
kidblast
Some say that adding more weight or mass to the head stock improves sustain. http://theunofficialmartinguitarforum.yuku.com/topic/170716/Adding-mass-to-a-headstock#.WRLpUMZw9PY there are clamps you can buy that you can attach to the head stock that are "supposed" to do this. so the idea of adding tuners with more mass, heavier, etc.. would give your guitar more sustain. I don't buy in to the theory.

Then again, some hear big improvements in sound with every doodad they install. So far the only things I have never heard that improve sound are the knobs and strap buttons. Egads, what did I just say? Now we may hear tons of stories that claim to "hear" a better sound by changing them. The aftermarket parts sellers must love this myth crap. I am on the "total crap" side myself when it comes to the +mass = +sustain.. but I think you're onto something with strap buttons, but only with brass screws..
