  1. haha, like your description of the looks. Is it just about looks or the sound for you on the SM? I do remember the SM had no pick guard which was why I didn't like it - but I swear I looked at one that wasn't RED like the one you linked to, it looked just like this one above but no pick guard - maybe a little darker...
  2. Is that the 'Streatmaster'? I looked at this guitar when I settled on a D-18, I loved the sound of the all mahogany of this guitar!
  3. I got my ordered at GC as well, I paid for it back in April or May and got a receipt picture about 4 weeks ago and this morning I got an email saying that my order was being prepared and shipped out. Curious to your experience with GC. I called the 800 number and the SA said I am guaranteed one...but I'll be antsy like you until its in hand (or at least tracking number included).
  4. That thing looks gorgeous! Any chance you can confirm the specs for Nut Width and neck depth with some calipers? Would love to understand the neck shape based on the specs shared a couple weeks ago, it seems the J-150 has a slimmer neck (1 11/16 vs. 1.725 on standard). Got an email from GC today saying mine would be here on 7/1...
  5. I see this acronym a lot on here, sorry for stupid question, what is NGD? "New Guitar, Dude!"
  6. Awesome! Congrats, hope I can get mine this week. My SA at GC now is saying that Gibson is shipping them today - I hope it comes in soon!
  7. Would that be true for a brand new guitar? This is a new amber burst SJ-200, is that tan line thing for new and used or just used ones?
  8. I came across an SJ-200, I believe Bob Dillan style with double pick guard. Just curious what the purpose is of double pick guard? I assume to stop scratching on the low side of the strings but is there any other purpose? If I picked up a SJ-200 with double pick guard, can you remove one of them if you don't like it? I can't tell if it looks good or not so was curious given that this guitar seems to cost a few hundred $ extra new vs. single pick guard is it just ascetics or other purpose.
  9. Interesting the Euro price is the same as USD, I paid $4299 USD on my deposit and supposedly picking up on 6/21
  10. I agree! That is bumming me out and hope it is not correct - maybe it’s because NG is a wee lad? That might be the deal breaker for me and go back to the SJ-200 - 1.725 like other models would have been ideal!
  11. I just got my confirmation of order, picking up on the 21st of June, excited to have no binding after playing a J-150 and comparing to the SJ-200 I had my hands on for a while. Still have no specs, not sure the receipt gives any details, but posting in case any slueths know how to read GC SKU 🙂 "GIBSON AMJBNGVS WC Noel Gallagher 150 AE GTR VINT"
  12. If I don't get the NG 150 and keep my SJ-200, I have been looking at picking up a blonde J-150...yours sounds sweet! There is a decent example of a 2001 on reverb for 2700 in mint condition.
  13. lol, but Champagne Supernova already sounds so good on my SJ-200! Thanks for the details, I am leaning more and more towards skipping this and just keeping my SJ-200. On the bridge, I think the 4 inlays vs. 2 is also a difference of the SJ-200 Standard vs. Original - on my Standard I have two of them like the NG J-150, while I think the original series has the 4.
  14. Going to try this again 🙂 as I am looking for specifics if someone has them. What are the exact differences you would expect from the current production SJ-200 Standard and this NG J-150. It was noted above that the J-150 is the same minus 50 good things, but besides headstock and neck binding, what else is its missing?
  15. Curious what these differences are? I understand the no-binding but outside that it seems to be the same - flamed maple, vintage tuners, etc. Seems very different from the J-200 studio that are stripped down. I ask because I just got a newer SJ-200 (see other thread I started) and have an option to buy one of these NG J-150's and going to be presented with this decision. I got a discount on the SJ-200 since it was a NOS with some issues, so the SJ-200 is actually cheaper than the J-150 for me.
  16. I actually got a ping from my sales guy at GC that he was able to secure one of these for me. US price is $4299 and is due out 6/21/21.
  17. I am not sure if its serendipity, that the NG 150 came into this discussion because my sales guy actually called me yesterday and said he could get me the NG J-150! So now, I think I am going to be in this exact situation!!! Do I keep this Sj-200 at a discount or take the NG 150 @ $4299? Or Keep both? The reason I know about these guitars is because of Noel and Oasis, its the reason I started playing guitar in the first place. I think I would prefer no binding on the neck - but is the neck the same shape/size?
  18. Excuse my ignorance, but what was interesting? The fretboard being dry? I applied some conditioner and now it looks much better.
  19. Been tracking this 🙂. Based on comments in the thread on Youtube, someone said they pre-ordered in UK at £3799 "Well just spoken to a reputable guitar shop today and they have 3 coming just preordered and payed deposit 😎 £3799 is the UK price It's a lot of money but I gotta have this gem for me collection. I can not wait for the call to say its in shop."
  20. That last part is my biggest worry - so as long as these things are not structural I am not concerned...the cosmetic stuff doesn't bother me anymore like it did at full price! Part of my worry is I keep playing it and falling more and more in love :) I am not looking for these things on purpose, just giving everything a thorough once over so I limit the unknowns. To be honest, given that I am a noob, I am not sure what to care about and what not to care about, which is why I keep posting these findings. The perfectionist in me always wants a clean slate - but the practical side of me knows these guitars have survived World Wars and still work beautifully and I worry that this sound is set it my ear and won't be able to replicate. When I bought my LP, I bought a 50's Standard and loved the sound of it. My teacher said the fretboard was a little dry so I took it back to the store to look at it and they wanted to exchange it. I hated the sound of that replacement so much I went back and exchanged it back for the original LP I had and just applied some conditioner :) and couldn't be happier.
  21. Thanks for the continued wonderful information! I am loving this SJ200! I might be too much in love at this point to go back :). I'm going to contact Gibson to validate warranty info and if this should be resolved (and can be easily/quickly) and then will go from there. Given the few posts I have seen about this on J200 style bridges, seems cosmetic and not structural to the bridge...to fortyears point, how that she's in bed with me, I don't think I'd kick her out for these issues. I recorded my practice last night with an SM57, holy moly does this guitar sound great under a mic! I actually found myself playing and listening through my headphones as it sounded so good!
  22. Ok, one more thing I found on the guitar. I have been looking online and there seems to some precedence for this - I took guitar to luthier (at GC) and they said it looks great and did a string change and setup and its playing nice. As seen in this post below, I have a similar yet much smaller thing going on. I noticed I could slide a corner of a paper under one of the mustache ends ever so slightly, I posted my image here - https://ibb.co/DWJtmYJ. It’s about half the amount of that other poster. I can’t imagine the curls of the mustache actually provide any stability? The core of the bridge seems very very very stable and not bulging or anything - humidity is right around 41/42*. Would this change anyone’s opinion? It seems like something that would be covered by warranty if needed to be fixed. These are just hard to find and I am really enjoying this one! I don’t want overlook anything serious but also have oddly been at ease with the cosmetic stuff as I know what I will do to it.
  23. Yeah - the nice thing is I have 40 days left to figure that out 🙂, but at this point I am inclined to keep it under the assumption this is a finish issue and one that isn't unique to this guitar but as 62burst pointed out has happened to him and I've seen other reviews about Gibson and these imprints. My biggest concern was storage and if that was indication of improper humidity and longer term problems I could have. However, if that NG J-150 sig model comes out in the next 40 days and I can get one (I asked GC and they can't get it) then either she gets a sibling or I may be much more inclined to return this one for that. One other question that will help me make a decision is around Gibson warranty. I read that they are not transferable? So, if that is true, I feel like I got a steal in that I got a 'used' guitar at a used guitar price, but I still have full warranty since it was technically sold as new. if you look at Reverb, even the few year old used ones are selling around MSRP for a new one since they are hard to find and not a high volume guitar.
  24. They charged me 2021 price. I don't think there is a difference in the model of the SJ-200 Standard in late 2019 vs. now, its just when it was built. They had this online as the Gibson SJ-200 Standard in Vintage Sunburst, for $4659 (or something like that). I am in a tax-free state, so I got this for that price - 20%.
