  1. Tom here's an article about the Plek machining. I wouldn't worry too much about whether or not our SG's have had it done. Tons and tons of guitars have been made without it and look at all the beautiful music that we have heard over the years. I would only consider it if my frets needed replacing. I would then ask Gibson what it would cost to have them do your guitar. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/Built%20by%20Humans,%20Perfected%20by/
  2. this MF link has the right specs.I want the gun metal grey. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-Les-Paul-Axcess-Standard-Electric-Guitar?sku=430635 Sorry about the double post. I messed up editing somehow. LOL
  3. Hey Tom, The Axcess guitar originally came out with Burstbuckers and alot of people complained about the BB1 in the neck so now they are installing the 496R/498T which I prefer. I think the Burstbuckers sound too close to my 57's. I welcome the hotter pickups. Yes they all have the coil split switch. I was trying to show you how they have carved away the the heel at the neck so you get easy access to upper frets and the guitar has a bevel scarf in the back and front of the guitar so it doesn't dig in like other LP's. Also the guitar is thinner than regular LP's and is weight relieved. Let me see if I can get the page to show up again. As far as the plek machining I had the assumption that Gibson used it on most guitars. http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-Custom/Les-Paul-Axcess-Standard/Features.aspx See if this works.
  4. I am waiting on the money to make the purchase Tom. Check out all the mods this beast has. I am already sold and used is not in my vocabulary right now. Thanks anyway. http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-Custom/Les-Paul-Axcess-Standard/Features.aspx
  5. Hey Tom I know that Custom LP is a little pricey but it is my dream LP and compared to alot of other customs the price is right. I see them on Ebay trying to sell for over $3800. I can get one for $3450 brand new signed sealed and delivered to my home. I also need a guitar with the Floyd Rose. I don't have any anymore!
  6. It was one of the GOTW guitars in 2007 week 38 w/57 Classic pups. He can probably elaborate more.
  7. Beautiful guitar Alfa. Looks almost too pretty to play.
  8. That's close to something I would want but the semi hollows are still a bit too bulky for me. Very nice guitar. The reason I like that Les Paul is that they took care of all the reasons I don't like playing a Les Paul. They weigh around 7 lbs. close to a heavy SG. I sold my Taylor and Ibanez and this will be their replacement. It won't have all the wood tone of a regular LP but it won't be as bright as an SG.
  9. Hey Sellen I found out this guitar is actually a Gibson SG Elegant quilt top. (quilted maple top). They actually werte limited editions but not 50th Anniversary.
  10. Hey Tom what's up? I know this is the SG3 thread but I finally found the perfect Les Paul for me. It has a thinner contoured body. It is weight relieved. It has a fast neck with the heel joint carved for easy access to upper frets and has 496R/498T pups that split coil and a floyd rose trem. bridge. It is perfect for me because I don't like big heavy bulky guitars because of my back and it solves the issues I have with smaller hands. Take a look and let me know what you think. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-Les-Paul-Axcess-Standard-Electric-Guitar?sku=430635
  11. Yeah I think he is trying to jack the price!
  12. That is a cool guitar. It sold for $1791 plus $50 shipping. That's a little out of my price range.
  13. Hey Tom, This is all I could find in a quick search hope it helps. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/Tone%20Tips_%20Pickup%20Heights/
  14. Hey Tom, That's a pretty cool looking guitar. I wish there were more close ups. Especially the backside of the neck joint. That always is the problem area if it's been knocked over in it's stand or dropped. The price doesn't seem too bad if you could get more photos. A serial # would be nice also.
  15. As always you make some valid points Dub-T
  16. Oh BTW Tom, Those custom reissues look nice but not 3 times the money we paid for our guitars and I still prefer the chicken head over the 3 way switch.
  17. That's odd. The neck on mine is not as fat as the strat I used to own. Kelly Industries in their review which is a reliable source called it a 60's profile neck but mine don't fit that bill. As far as tone I'm pretty sure that the shaving of the neck does not have as much to do with tone as much as how tight the neck tenon fits.
  18. Hey Tom what's up? I've been wanting to ask you about the neck on your SG-3. The neck on mine is fatter than the 60's slim tapered profile neck that is on my Flying V. It is not as thick as say a 50's profile neck found on alot of Les Pauls. Is yours the same way. I'm thinking they have the 50's/60's hybrid necks.
  19. Here's a pic of a 1977 SG Special. http://www.guitar-museum.com/guitar-22390-1977-Gibson-SG-Special
  20. I think there was a different numbering system going on with th first 200-300 guitars made of the SG-3 in 2007.
  21. I finally found it. Here it is: http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Divisions/Gibson%20USA/Guitar%20of%20the%20Week/
  22. Gibson has one but the site is down today. I'll post when I can. Rewd.
  23. Hey Tom, Here's a link to the listing of all the guitars of the week. The seller is mistaken in his description. It is not Gibson's offical list but appears accurate to me. The SG-3 GOTW all had single coil pups and there were 400 made each week. My flying V is a GOTW #31. http://www.electric-guitar-review.com/2007/05/22/egrs-gibson-guitar-of-the-week-index/
  24. Hey Tom, It's probably a little sharper than you are used to looking at but I have 4 guitars set up that way and have had no problems with strings. the only draw back I can see is if you wrap your strings over the top of the stop tail. Some people do this and in that case it might put added stress on the stop tail bar piece. That's Troy Stetina, I believe he is using either a B-52 or an Engl amp head. Depends on the song. BTW as you know if you drop the tail piece you have to readjust the intonation. Later Rewd.
  25. That's a cool guitar Ampman! If I remember right those are some pretty hot pickups in that axe. BTW that's a pro sounding mix because that is Troy Stetina playing guitar. I wish I could play as good as he does.
