Do we know whether this is a limited series (like 2000 pieces max) or will be available as an ongoing series?

We don't know, but it appears the Victoria was a limited edition? so I would guess this one could be as well.

  2. So more of a '58 neck carve, apparently, which IIRC is entering baseball bat territory.

Which is confusing to me, because I heard the original was in between a 50s and 60s neck. Well, 58 is numerically, but, you know.

    Beautiful top though.

The RRHOF lost me, and my attention, years ago.

I recall seeing Metallica on stage in 1989 at the awards show, playing their A$$E$ off, and killing a live rock performance.

Moments later, they awarded that years "Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Recording" to Jethro Tull.

    Never paid attention after that.

(Well, years later, I watched replay on my computer of the evening when ELO finally got inducted into the Hall. But was miffed when they only included the early lineup of Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan, and Richard Tandy.  No respect at all for Hugh McDowell, Melvin Gale, Mik Kaminski, or Kelly Groucutt.)

    😐

Metallica had 100,000 copies of the album with "Grammy Award Winners" stickers ready to be shipped.

They printed 100,000 stickers that said "Losers" and stuck 'em over the word winners before shipping.

Based on my impression of your commentary and that you have an R8, I’d sell your Trad if it just isn’t being played. Put it up for a price you can live with to part ways and take your time for the right buyer to come along.

    This.

I almost wet my pants reading that.

To much Slash, how dare you!

It's possible they should have spread it out over a period of time. What's perplexing to me is why they're only putting out somewhat semi-affordable Slash sigs now? I could be mistaken, but didn't the previous Slash signature models cost like $10K? Or has the value skyrocketed?

I could be way off though, because that's before I found this place. Before, I used to just... play. Didn't even know what a truss rod was. Good times.

  6. See above. Too shrill, not warm enough for me. The bass is a little too boomy, YMMV.

NP,  happy to help. Maybe someone who've had them in a Les Paul could chime in here? I played a V with them in it.

Of course it's best if you don't have to swap out pickups, but it happens, and they're not crazy expensive, even if they're not free.

  7. Welcome.

I too eventually found that if you're loaded on a regular basis, you can't be (as) happy on a regular basis. The hangover may seemingly last a day or two, but the effect on your neurotransmitters and what not lasts a lot longer. Like, months and months longer. At least when you get older.

I'm all for it if others consider that a fair trade, though. I sure used to 🙂

Can you tell me why you don’t like them.

Bass too boomy, treble too ice-picky. I may be exaggerating a little, but Alnico v magnets generally have scooped mids and are tighter-sounding than Alnico IIs. As a result, they generally lack the warmth I look for in a Gibson - at least that was my experience with BB Pro's. I would recommend something like Classic 57s (Alnico II magnets) instead.

But the BB Pro's I've played were in a V, so maybe they sound different in a Les Paul. But generally speaking, Alnico V aren't as warm sounding as Alnico II.

But hey, worst case scenario, with labor you're out an extra $400 or something? It's a lot less than three grand.

Or maybe try a 50s Standard with Burstbucker 1 and 2? (Alnico II) I've only held one (1) in my hands, but I have to say the neck wasn't bad at all. Not slim taper, but no log either.

Thanks that’s what I was thinking. If I had stupid money, I would get it and hang it on the wall and a glass case but to play it and watch it get worse we all have a hard enough time playing our guitars and gigging with them and they take on wear and tear. I don’t want a museum piece, I understand why guys like them I did like the idea of Alnico 3 unpotted but the supreme has Gibson Burstbucker Pro Humbucker  Alnico 5 . The supreme has a slim neck the 59 obviously has the vintage fat neck and I do have smaller hands. No Jimi Hendrix hands over here.😂

A note of caution: Burstbucker Pro's and Alnico V magnets are not for everyone. I don't like Burstbucker Pro's at all myself. But worst case scenario, you swap out the pickups.

  10. What are the specs?

And if you're not 100% sure you want a relic'ed guitar, don't buy one. Guitars get wear and tear as they're played. If you're planning on playing it, my school of thought is why get a guitar that's been slightly damaged at the factory, and pay extra for it. That's the prevailing opinion on this forum, I would say.

  11. Here's why Gibson should hire me for marketing strategies:

Since the Jessica appears to have the same pickups as the other Slash signatures, chances are the novelty has slightly worn off for people who bought one of those - I'm positive they as well as the Jessica are great guitars (the pickups sound amazing in videos), but even me as a fanboy thinks it's been a bit much Slash stuff lately. Seeing as it's my belief that Gibson will release a Hetfield 1984 Explorer in a year or two, here's what they should have done.

They should not have signed Mustaine. I have nothing but respect for his playing - he took metal rhythm guitar one or three steps further, and in a very musical way. But fanboys of Mustaine - the prospective market - is going to buy a Jackson King V. His golden era was when he played that Jackson, and that will always be foremost in the minds of guitar-playing fans. He's bounced around since his alleged dispute with Jackson - ESP, Dean - and I cannot imagine they sold a whole lot off his name. At premium prices, like for his Gibsons, I'm afraid they won't be a big seller.

Gibson should have saved the resources to either focus on an earlier 1984 Explorer reissue with lots of marketing before embarking on the Slash campaign, or even better, put out a 1984 Explorer with lots of marketing in between the Appetite Amber, November Burst, Victoria and the (limited?) Anaconda Burst, and the release of the Jessica. The new Standards (the 50s/60s) must have revived the company's resources, so slower and steadier would have been a viable option. I believe it would have made a larger profit, and kept the Gibson name in ever higher esteem.

Also, there's people's means to actually buy these guitars to reckon with. I daresay most who bought one of the Standards, maybe even a Slash signature model too, do NOT have the means to spend that kind of money on a guitar again for the foreseeable future.

$3199. Not bad but of course it’s a no for me. What will Slash’s next sig LP be?

It says the original it was a factory second sent to Slash, how come Gibson doesn’t send you any guitars Pinch?

    They should, really.

Looking at the specs... Okay, so the only difference from the other Slash signature LPs is the three-piece top. I thought it'd have a slightly different neck profile like the original. Still, it's a nice-looking guitar, of course.
