  1. The wisest thing I live by is don’t believe everything you see or hear. The world thanks to internet is flooded with grifters and all sorts of other walks of life. I’ll say it once - screw the reviews, put the GD guitar in your hands and see if you GD like it. End of story. I have years of life on this earth and never needed someone to “review” crap for me to help me decide if I like something or not. No magazines, commercials, and especially YouTubers. Don’t forget to click the like, subscribe, and leave a comment.

  2. Bad neck angles lead to having a raised bridge. So these help those guitars out. Nice. Also some believe that to get “maximum tone” the bridge needs to be decked. These bridges might help that too. Not here to profess any further, but just noting the market that would be interested in these quite possibly.

    Agreed.

And all the other government agencies as well.

    👍

I was going to say as far as I could throw my house, but if I lived in San Francisco that might be a tent. In that case I would have not made my point 😀

  4. So much of the food we get from the store, restaurants, etc… who knows what we are being fed. Again, my beef with corporations putting in the cheapest crap in food to save a buck not caring what happens to those that give patronage to their empires. If I had it my way, there’d be warning labels on food that is garbage like there are on cigarettes, etc. To me, what’s the difference if you die from smoking in X years or die from dietary issues in about the same amount of years from a debilitating condition - like smoking causing emphysema, cancer, COPD in general. Dying from obesity related diseases or colon cancer isn’t much better if at all. I trust the FDA about as much as I can throw a full sized pickup. Just me though… There's a reason we need colonoscopies more regularly today - because food out there is a lot of garbage and ironically not inexpensive. Hard to find a healthy meal when you have things like diabetes to deal with and other dietary issues.  All I’m saying is that I have seen people die from these sorts of things and hope it isn’t the way I go out. No thank you.

  5. I’d like to think that a vast majority of electronics are made with semiconductors that are fabricated overseas. Sort of like how American are vehicles that use - and they all do - parts overseas? A lot of overseas corporations here in MI that work on building electronic modules for the Big 3… Maybe Americans put this stuff together, but couldn’t do it without international support apparently to make the stuff line workers assemble. Just curious on others’ thoughts in this regard.

That is why I try my best to not engage in the exploitive offshore economy. I don’t feel I’m entitled to a good deal at the expense of slave labor wages, if not actual slaves, and working kids.  When I walk through the pet store, I often wonder what the third world thinks of us as they spend 12 hours of their day churning out bumble bee costumes for our dogs, chuckle.

Don’t get me wrong though I don’t condone all the exploitation that goes on in the world but literally we have a thread that is about buying American and how hard it is today to actually find stuff that is pure America. American corporations are international and they are the ones that make choices to have manufacturing somewhere other than America. It’s nearly everything today and not a thing you, I, or anyone else in this thread are going to do to change that. Sure, spare the purchasing for a holiday, but how much will it change. The rich and powerful shape the world we live in. They lie to us as they always have for the centuries mankind has pillaged this earth. I simply don’t have the fight in it anymore to even try because no one does anything to make it change of any significance. We spend a lot of time fighting with each other over here while we are lied to over and over. I’m just fortunate that I have what I do, and I busted my tail to get what I have. In the end, what I have is a joke to some of those with unadulterated wealth. And to note, I don’t have all the things I talked about by spending it on garbage. I learned how to save and afford the things I buy rather than be some credit junkie because I “have to have” all the garbage that is pushed down our throats in this wonderful global economy we share.

  7. Like our corporations, I’m gonna always buy the best value for my buck. Hasn’t done them wrong, hasn’t done me wrong. Then again I invested in my education and make a good salary so I don’t see how it affects me to buy strictly American stuff let alone go out of my way to do so. I used my head and applied myself though. Paid for every cent of my education too. I own my home, my cars, etc. paid for these too - every red cent. The boogey man isn’t the far East… you think these people live good over there? Spoiler alert, NO

  8. The case doesn’t look right - can only see 4 latches when there should be 5. Also that sticker on the pick guard looks like it came from the far east. I’d pass because a real Gibson like that costs more than $3400 - even used.

    What happened in this thread...

    I'll read it later

Anyway I got my guitar! It is truly a beauty!

    I'll upload some photos.

Please help me identifying it cause I'm new to Gibson brand

Glad you are happy with it. As mentioned by me and others… take the truss rod cover off and see if there is a 5/16” nut there and if so, congratulations on owning a beautiful new Gibson Les Paul. There appears to be “wings” as it has been called looking at the back of the headstock which is a Gibson thing - great positive indicator. The S/N is stamped in a way Gibson would do… that’s about all that can be said based on what you provided. What about paperwork that comes with the guitar? Just other things that help validate it. Can call Gibson too… give them the serial number. But first and foremost, look behind the truss rod cover…

  10. I’m strongly leaning towards real based on picture showing the back of the headstock - how the thing was constructed should be apparent from this view. To remove doubt I’d want to see what’s behind that truss rod cover. It better be a 5/16” nut or I would hard pass. Good luck!

How many guitars, wrist watches, sports cars, trophy wives a person accumulates is a function of their ability to fund those desires.

There is actually an algebraic, algorithmic formula - once posted here -  if I remember, it goes something like:

    N =  H +1

Where N  is how many guitars you Need,  and  H is how many you Have.

Haha it’s funny because it’s true

I’m up to 34.. Mostly high end Gibson, Fender, Gretsch, Rickenbacker & Martin.. There’s nothing on Gibson’s new Guitar list the OP posted that are for me..

But, there are still a few Guitars I’d like.. A reissue ‘65 Gibson Firebird VII.. 3 Pickups, Maestro, Sunburst with Gold hardware is one. A Martin D-45 is another..

I do a lot of Recording. I play all kinds of genres & periods. Different Guitars capture the Sound of certain Era’s & Genre’s better than others.. A Fender Jag or Jazzmaster works better on 60’s Surf than a 335. And a 335 works better on Jazz than a Rickenbacker 12 string.. The exploration of a Sound is still interesting for me…

I know I’m overboard & may have a problem! But, in addition to playing Music on them they’re my Art Collection..

No one here including myself claiming you have a problem haha! Sounds like you have a purpose to it all. Everyone is different and appreciate you sharing with us here what your purpose is. I did at one time enjoy the grind of finding guitars that excited me to acquire, just that that “flame” seems to be faint these days from my perspective. I feel at this present moment I am contented with my collection and I have welcomed it. Many great wishes to you and your success.

  13. Maybe I conquered my GAS but there is nothing I am pining for whatsoever on the new guitar market. I have lost interest in other guitars/gear I used to keep an eye out for as well. I own 13 guitars and 11 are high end Gibson guitars. I’ve come to the conclusion that I have all I would ever want in a lifetime. I play how I play and I sound how I sound for the most part with any of these 13 guitars so I ask myself what am I missing - what’s the point of acquiring more?  Not knocking anyone else how they choose to use their money/time. I feel I’m in a nice place right now. I hated it in the past when I’d see something else and it would consume my thoughts until I got it, then I’d be looking for another guitar shortly after. Viscous cycle…

  14. I have a Peavey 5150 II model. I also have the cabinets that go with it - top and bottom. So loud, it melts faces. Sort of a sterile clean tone but the distortion it gives is no joke… very full sounding. Had it since it came out and no real reason to sell it. Still works great… all original. Some swear by the original 5150, but not sure why anyone that has the II would be aspiring for the original. Bottom line, this amp/cab set is made for arenas. Easily…

  15. Perhaps “greatest” has been redefined in some fashion… I can’t find any other explanation. Whats good for one man may be the opposite for another. Perhaps greatest guitarists that helped RS sell the most magazines… most publicity… looks like this list repays some favors… greatest guitarists to me means those that have mastered the instrument and written songs that demonstrate this. The rankings here are not in my agreement either.

“Music” today isn’t music. It’s about image and popularity. Talent - as usual for the last few decades - isn’t a major factor. If you can look good on stage holding a guitar, on the list. Done!

  16. From a repair standpoint, individual components of hand-wired much easier to service. When you have to service a bad pot or whatever dealing with PCB, you’re taking out the whole thing, not just the “bad” parts. I don’t believe tone-wise you’ll see much difference if any to agree with others here.

your concern is understandable, but don't spend a lot of time worrying about it. I've been gigging for 48 years and with the exception of a 6 year period in the late 70's to mid 80's I've used tube amps. never had one fail me. although anything can certainly happen to any amp or piece of equipment at any time. only amp I had fail in the middle of a gig was a Crate solid state. worst amp I ever owned. had a Lab Series L5 solid state amp. really nice amp ...

Maybe it’s just me but when I think of Crate, I think crap. My first practice amp was a Crate and it sucked poop. Those Blue Voodoos - one of their “best” amps - I read had issues too… I played through one a few times and they were OK, but I can think of so many more better ones. And I forgot the name of the SS Crate head I used years ago, but that thing would just cut out on you intermittently, then come back minutes later like nothing was wrong… The tone was pretty bad too with a decent cabinet I might add. GC offered me $100… I took it and ran. Wasn’t going to gig with that thing if it was the only amp I could get. It would screw you over… So maybe I got this whole Crate thing wrong, but I think some would agree with my feelings about the brand. I’ll pass…

  18. What the Beatles did had to be done at some time or another. But if someone did exactly what they did today, well already been done. It wasn’t my generation (gen X if we must). That classic rock was my dad’s music that I got somewhat familiar with. I also had my generation’s music I liked, but as we might know, I liked rock and metal. Still do… but I respect the Beatles and understand how they were the biggest band of all time. And yes, music for the past decade and possibly more are mostly corporate music garbage sounds. No soul, no life. All image and stupidity. Just me again haha! YMMV
