considering push/pull coil tap addition to 335

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I'm toying with the idea of adding split coils and push/pull pots to my 2011 ES-335. I think it is called a coil tap feature on Gibson electrics.-

I'm sure some one makes a harness and sells the pick-ups but I'm mostly an acoustic player and not familiar with those suppliers. Can anybody point me in the direction of companies that sell such things?

I could also use advice from those of you that have done this conversion as I have not decided fully to do it yet.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Acoustic Goose

Welcome to the Forum. I do not dabble in such stuff. I am a plug in and play kinda guy. There are those on the forum who may give you info. Seems like there is a wealth of knowledge on the internet.

It just seems funny to me(I am a Vintage Guy) that 40-50 years from now....that someone will be *****ing that someone added coil-tapping pots to a 2011 ES335.......[scared]

2 push-pulls or 4? This is the J Page / Schecter 'Z Plus' wiring mod which has been around in one form or other for many years. The in series/out-of-phase setting is quite something.

Your pickups must have 4 wires at least to do this, and the usual pots to get would be 500k log I think, but I don't know whether you want long or short shaft. The earthing on this circuit is the black art. I have it on 2 guitars.

Yes as stated, coil tapping would require 4 conductor pickups...thereby escalating costs...

Personal opinion, as a longtime 335'er would be to not...

Results and satisfaction would be unknown until too late

There are many semis and hollows far better suited to S/C sounds than the 335...

ES 330/Epi Casino... [thumbup]

Gretsch's many... [thumbup]

Fender Tele slimline S/C version

Rickenbacker 330 etc

Deusenbergs various... [thumbup]
