McCartney J-185 12 string

Macca and his band are real Gibsonites. On that night, by my count, Paul played the J-15 12 String, his Epiphone Texan, his Epiphone Casino, and two different Les Pauls. Rusty Anderson played two (I think) different ES-335's, a Trini Lopez maybe, a Firebird (but a copy, I think), and a Les Paul. He may also have played an SG. I can't remember. Brian Ray played an SG Bass, an Epiphone Jack Casady Bass, a J-160E, and a Les Paul Goldtop. Many Gibsons and Epiphones were played in this GREAT show!

Nice photo, jedward!

A lot of people know he had the Everly Bros model the 70's.

Less are aware he actually played a J-160e in the period just before that - the square version. . .

EM7,

do you have a picture of PM and that square J 160e ?

I've seen his E.Bros guitar

edit : here's some footage of the J160E it appears towards around the 6 or 7th minute

Nope - but you provide the footage. I really like that sparetime feel on the countryside.

The square 160 I tried a few years back was, , , , eeeehh full of Linda's socks (to recycle an ol' phrase)

Guess it records better than it plays acoustically.

Then again in a countryside mood any 6 strings sound nice, don't they. . .

Today he was at Graceland:

And obviously got the well-known migraine from the notorious J-200 populux pickguard motif.

Only kiddin' – Paul gets around, , , is it his second time there. First being in 1964.

And here is a photo I took at The Frank Erwin Center in Austin on 5/22 with his Texan, arguably the most famous Gibson acoustic in the world.

Except that it is an Epi! ;) (and yes, I know, owned by Gibson and made in Kalamazoo in 1964 :) )

I believe that if you made an investigation out among the broader public and asked which instrument comes to their mind when they hear the words Acoustic Guitar, most would stand fairly disorientated. Then pressed a bit, a percentage would say, "the torn one played by Willie Nelson".

Very few would remember the one with flowers on the guard and close to zero would be aware of Paul's Texan.

But I agree – it might be one of the most significant acoustics in the whole wide round world. If not by name, then by sound, , , tuned 1 step down.
