20_Gauge
I'm wantin' to put a ES-335 style pickguard on my Dot Studio. I was doin' some research(on the Epi site) & noticed that most/if not all the Archtops w/ pick guards a Laminated MAPLE. Mine's body is Laminated MAHOGANy. Does this make a difference in whether I gan install(drill the 2 holes required) a 335 'guard on my Dot Studio?
amx05462
no the wood doesnt make a difference. i had one of those. the mahogany is paper thin.. veneer. when refinishing mine i went right through it with the sand paper in one spot. but the pick guard doesnt know what wood its on. 20_Gauge
Thanks for the info amx, I didn't really think it would. I'm more wonderin' if it'll make a difference in the drilling of the holes, is the Mahogany as strong as the Maple?
20_Gauge
a hole is a hole - the screws don't care where they're screwed in.... strap-button screws think the same :o Ok, thanks Hombre. Yeah I'm prob'ly just over-thinkin' this. not the 1st time .
amx05462
yeah its just as strong even the maple ones are laminate. its not like they shape the body like they used to years ago they laminate it and put it in a press thats how they get the top and back contours these days.. but its just as strong as any other guitar top. L5Larry
its not like they shape the body like they used to years ago ES-3XX's and their Epi counterparts have always been laminated pressed tops.
