What value do I need for both and also will my current knobs fit the new pots . What is the value of the caps currently in this guitar . Im replacing my input and toggle switch with switchcraft and also going to replace plastic wire with cloth . Kurt Vonnegut Fan Posted February 15, 2014 Share Posted February 15, 2014 My personal experience is that, if doing so specifically as an upgrade to enhance tone, it will yield absolutely nothing. Your guitar will sound exactly the same afterwards. That said, if doing so because one or more of the pots are getting scratchy, replacement will end the scratchiness, and high-quality pots (like CTS) will last a lot longer than many stock Epi pots. Same for doing it as a preventative measure. In my case, pots were getting scratchy after only about 3 years of light use. All has been stable with CTS pots ever since (4+ years). Epi often uses 500k audio taper for tone, 300k linear for volume, and .022uf tone caps. From what I can tell, many folks upgrade their Epis (as I did) with all 500k audio taper pots. I don't think caps are anywhere as big a deal as some assert - aside from value, a cap is a cap. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Kurt Vonnegut Fan Posted February 15, 2014 Share Posted February 15, 2014 You say "better parts" - is there something wrong with the ones that are in there now, and/or have you identified what's in there now? Cap values of .047 are typical for Fender-type single-coil pickups - there's some erroneous info out there that because Casinos have single-coil pickups (P90s), they use the same caps as Fender. g6120 Posted February 15, 2014 Author Share Posted February 15, 2014 Number one I don't like plastic wire cloth is my preference and better parts yes upgrade as my toggle switch is faulty so a switchcraft will be my replacement and since Im in I will also replace in input jack . As far as the other things Ive mentioned well thats up in the air at the moment . Will not change the tone pots or the caps but may change to cloth wire . Just found this Switchcraft™ toggle switch ensures life long security found that statement on Epiphone site but mine is faulty and looking into the guitar I don't see the Switchcraft name so I'm skeptical . Im all school I prefer not looking at plastic wiring just knowing its there displeases me . Will it make a sonic difference no I reolize that its just my personal preference . New ideas can be a risk yes but experimenting can be innovative to a individual and take you where you never thought possible which is a very good thing and a learning experience .
