T50
Hello gents Last year, I've returned to playing guitar after many years of break. I bought a Gibson SG Standard (2001 model) and changed the pickups to Duncan Jazz (n) and JB (B). No particular reasons. Just want to try those famous pickups. After changing the pickups according to the Duncan instruction sheet, I noticed that the sound isn't as loud as the original 490R/498T. Through my Marshall JCM 2000 combo amp, the JB pickup sounds small and "water-down" even at channel 3 with full gain. I have a Les Paul with 496R/500T pickups, and it sounds much louder with more crunch. Does t sound like I installed the pickups in a wrong way? Is there any way I can get a louder sound from these Duncan pickups? I apologize if this type of question was asked here many times. I'm new to this forum. Space Pup
I'm not sure about the Duncan's but the 496R/500T are two of Gibson's highest output pickups. It may be that the Duncan Jazz and JB just aren't hight output pickups. I wouldn't think that a Jazz pickup would have very high output favoring tone over volume. Gibson usualy uses the '57 Classic pickups in their Jazz guitars for that very reason.
T50
Thanks for the quick response. If I'm not mistaken, both bridge pickups (JB & 500T) have around 16k of output. This is why I was comparing those 2 pickups...
Space Pup
That being the case I would unsolder the pickups clean all the contact points and resolder. Maybe you have a bad conncetion somewhere.
