That looks like a wider headstock, def newer than '67, and is it even a 24.75 scale? Scary. It'd be nice to have 37 seconds of hands-on. Much would be answered quickly. Jayyj Posted June 5, 2014 Share Posted June 5, 2014 I'd have thought best plan of action would be sell the neck to recoup some of the cost and start again from scratch. Can't say a late '60s J50 is particularly high on my wish list but the idea of putting a nicely carved '50s style neck with a bit of meat to it would make it a more interesting prospect. If you were to use the supplied neck and it is long scale, you'd have a chance to sort it out, because that bridge absolutely has to go! I'm guessing '70 or '71 at the earliest for the beefier double-X. 1967 was the last year of the belly-up bridge, and overall construction is closer to the years that preceeded it, rather than the years that came after. Sometime in the late 1960s Gibson also went to an oversized diamond shaped bridge plate. Unless the guitar is missing its finish that would be a J-50.
