cliffmac
Does anyone know anything about S.S. Stewart Archtop guitars and if so when was the 3170 made?
pippy
I'd never heard of the marque before so I googled them. Here are a couple of links which I found to be of some interest in a 'general information' sort-of way - especially the Gibson and Martin connections. Apologies in advance if you've already discovered this stuff! http://antebelluminstruments.blogspot.co.uk/2009/11/c1935-ss-stewart-by-harmony-archtop_29.html http://theunofficialmartinguitarforum.yuku.com/topic/118731/Assistance-on-SS-Stewart-guitar-ID#.U8TYB8oR-So And here you will find loads of pictures of S.S. Stewart guitars if you type the brand name into the search box. It says you will be re-directed to the correct page once you click on the model but at the moment the site is under re-construction so it isn't much help for the time being. http://harmony.demont.net/search.php Pictures of yours might help date the instrument. From what I've read things like the shape/form of the f-holes can narrow down time frames. I'd like to see a snap or two in any case; they look pretty fine instruments! P.
