ironwood
Hi all, I just got this nice little mandolin. Can't find any definitive information on where and when it was made. The headstock has "Epiphone by Gibson" beautifully inlaid in abalone. The workmanship is very nice. There are no labels or other markings on the instrument. Here are some pictures. Thanks for any information that you might have...
el capitan
I think these were Korean.I also think the top may be solid, but I think pressed not carved. If so it'll keep moving & won't stay in tune for long.
ironwood
Is there any definitive information on where and when this particular instrument was made? I thought Korean but I have really not been able to find any information on specifications, dates, etc. The headstock "Epiphone by Gibson" I have not seen on a mandolin before... bobouz
The headstock "Epiphone by Gibson" I have not seen on a mandolin before... Guitars with this headstock logo are quite common, and I have seen these mandolins before - but never played one. Gibson has used a number of Korean contractors over the years, but during the "Epiphone by Gibson" period, Samick was their primary producer. The market value is not significant, but it could be a nice player.
