bigfootdg
I bought my kids guitars the year they were born. I thouught it would be fun to give them a guitar from their birth year when they get older. So i have a 2007 and a 2008 MIM Strat. I dont want to play them, i want to kep them clean and untoucjed for the kids. My question is this, what is the best way to keep a guitar stored for about 8 years. Right now I have them laying flat in hard casses under their cribs. Is this enough. Thanks
KSG_Standard
We just discussed this one in the last 1-2 days, lots of responses. But my .02 is this (i'm storing a '90 LP standard for my son, it's been put away for several years and what I'm doing is working) 1) Loosen the strings about a 1/2 step 2) Wipe off all fingerprints and moisture from all surfaces 3) Lightly oil the fret board 4) Put several descicant packages in the case I take mine out and check it every now and then to see if I need to re-oil it or wipe it down. Guitar Slinger reminded me to replace the descicant packs occasionally. So far, no rust, no checking or finish problems, fretboard isn't dry. Guitar slinger
Don't forget to renew the desicants once in a while. Loosening the strigs is debatable. but 1/2 a step sounds interesting... EDIT: Oh, I though KSG would forget about replacing the desiccants. And +1 on everything KSG said. But just don't go with mesa/boogies ok?
