Mickthemiller
Just a couple of things regarding the J15. Does anyone know what the head plate is made of and what exactly is the finish. I think the head plate is plastic and the finish is not nitro.

Mickthemiller
The finish is nitro. That's the question! The Gibson site says high gloss laquer for the J15 but the J45 actually says nitro. Is there a difference or are they the same. That's really why I asked. Doug the Old Geezer
Mick, If you go to the Gibson.com website, click on acoustic and then 2014, click on the J-15 picture and then click on the specifications tab, it says the finish is nitrocellulose. When I was shopping for my J-35, I had the same question as you on the J-15, because some of the websites didn't say Nitro finish.

Pesh
'Nitro' is lacquer, my friend; nitrocellulose is the full terminology. You can also get lacquer in the forms of shellac and polyurethane, which is a modern lacquer alternative used on all sorts of different ranges of guitars; quite common on things like Squier and the like.
