slk Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Anyone see any harm to having 13's flatwound on a Riveria Custom P93??? Will the guitar stand up to that much string tension or should I go smaller??? Thanks Steve
Parabar Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Lots of jazz players use 13's on full hollow body archtops, so I can't see a reason not to use them on a semi-hollow like a Riviera. The center block provides plenty of reinforcement .
Versatile Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 I have been up to 13's and even 14's on various guitars at some stage... IMO it is all about the efficacy of the truss rod...which in the end is relied upon to counter-balance string tension One or two of my older guitars are showing signs of 'fatigue' so are strung lighter than others It depends on the individual guitar I tend to go with 10's and 11's on semis V
