jvi Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I have a recent j 45 with the grovers and one is stiff, does the screw on the button adjust the tension ? will any thing?, or whats the best replacement set with out hole enlargement ? thanks and stay tuned J
bassetman Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Check the Grover site if unsure, but all mine adjust with the screw in the handles.
Boyd Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 The screws on the buttons adjusted the tension on the rotomatics from my 2008 J-50. Try loosening it slightly. If you want to replace the rotomatics, there should be no need to enlarge the holes, it's the opposite problem. The rotomatics have larger holes than "vintage style" tuners. But there are some inexpensive bushings that will adapt them: http://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and_Parts/Tuning_Machines/Tuner_Parts/3_8_Conversion_Tuner_Bushing.html When I replaced my Rotomatics, the bigger problem was the marks that the washers left on the headstock. These required sanding and polishing to remove and it was a little tricky. To see how much of an issue this might be, remove just one of the rotomatics and see how much of a "bullseye" there is around the hole.
