Starblind Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Greetings! Ever since I was a little boy I always wanted to own a Gibson SG, but lack of money or more important things prevented this. However, now I stumbled across an ad by a guy who's selling his used SG. I've never bought a used guitar on the internet before, so I'm just being careful and I'd like to know if it's a genuine Gibson. The owner changed quite a bit of hardware as well, which I don't mind. The ad says it has: Gibson 57 Classic (neck) Gibson Angus Young Signature pickup (bridge) ABM bridge and tailpiece CTS pots Orange Drops condensers The ad says it's a 2010, but I looked up the serial number on guitardaterproject.org and it says it's 2006 (I keep reading that's a good year for the SG Standard). Maybe the guy bought it in 2010, though. But I thought it was worth mentioning. I'm planning on contacting the seller and maybe ask for more pictures. What would you guys suggest? Maybe the wiring? Do Gibson USA guitars come with a authenticity certificate? Best regards PS I'm sorry that the pics are relatively small.
Rabs Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 First and 5th number on a Gibson indicate the year so its a 2006... http://archive.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/ProductSpotlight/GearAndInstruments/Gibson%20Serial%20Numbers/ It all looks legit to me (but im no SG expert).
capmaster Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Hello and welcome here, Starblind! Everything looks fine to me. Year of manufacturing is indeed 2006 according to the serial number. Does the seller include the stock parts replaced?
Starblind Posted September 2, 2016 Author Posted September 2, 2016 Great :) Thanks for the reply, guys! Does the seller include the stock parts replaced? No, I don't think so. But as I wrote, I don't mind. I probably would have bought an Angus Young humbucker sooner or later anyway. Would have been nice, though. I certainly could have used them for one of my other guitars. I contacted the seller and asked where he bought it and if there's a receipt, just in case.
