Yorgle Posted April 5, 2018 Share Posted April 5, 2018 Most folks complaining about muddy tone on the Wildkat blame the wiring, but it seems to me that there is a much simpler explanation: the stock pickups are ridiculously low on these guitars. As a test, last night I was able to run the pole pieces up nearly a 1/4 inch without getting anywhere near too close to the strings. It looks kinda weird with the screw threads showing, but the improvement in output and clarity is amazing! With the pole pieces extended, I get better sound with the master volume pot at 3 than I did before at 10. These guitars would definitely benefit from having at least 3/16" spacers on both pups.
