Red 333
NON-GIBSON TOPIC WARNING I saw Richard Thompson a couple of nights ago. I swear, after watching him, you'll think that none of the other guitar players you admire can really play guitar. He's astonishing. His voice was also stronger than I've heard it. He's getting even better with age. I believe his songs will survive the ages. NORMAL GIBSON ENTHUSIASM RESUMES A J185 Vine is coming around for a visit today. I'm very excited to get a chance to see and play it. Red
jannusguy
i'm doing a show with him (as the promoter, not as a player!) a week from saturday 3/14/09. i'm very stoked to see him again! based on ticket sales, it seems quite a few folks are looking forward to it. stop on by, i've got some good seats held for forum regulars! Deadgrateful
Seen him a few times here in the UK, last time was the Lewes guitar festival of all places... I Really really love and admire his playing, but must admit, I've never liked his vocals. They just don't sit with me, but hey, it's all personal taste. Doc
I was a massive Richard Thompson fan for years. He's not a great singer. Actually, I don't particularly care for his electric guitar playing. But I LOVE seeing the guy with acoustic. He's fabulous live.

Jinder
RT is one of my favourite artists ever. Amazing guitarist and very individual singer, but above all, what an unspeakably brilliant songwriter. There are few songs to be 'Beeswing', 'Calvary Cross', 'Withered & Died', 'Back Street Slide', '1952 Vincent Black Lightning', 'Uninhabited Man', 'Turning Of The Tide' and 'I'll Regret It All In The Morning'. Hell, that list could go on forever.

guitom
I swear' date=' after watching him, you'll think that none of the other guitar players you admire can [i']really[/i] play guitar. I think that's probably absolutely true in a lot of cases. I'm always picking up those magazine that have a list of the greatest rock and roll guitar players and he's not even mentioned. Richard is the best.
Rosewoody
I like his acoustic and electric work equally. His voice has limited range, and within that range is marvelous. His writing is first rate. A critic wrote that when he is "on" no one plays better. I've seen RT a dozen times and he was always "on."
