toupee
Hi all. I've been pondering fretboard treatments. I know different products use different ingrediants. I've heard of lemon oil, mineral oil, linseed oil, etc. I've heard to stay away from synthetics and waxes on unfinished woods like ebony or rosewood. One thing that has confused me is the use of fruit derived oils. Seems to me the high levels of acidity would not be a good thing over time. I've also heard that some oils like linseed will evaporate away faster and leave be stains from a chemical bonding process. Why not use virgin olive oil? It is natural and has a low acidity. Or maybe even vegetable oil. Any expert opinions out there?
Tim Plains
I'm no expert but I'm sure if you did try olive oil, it would leave your board feeling greasy for a long time. Try Fret Doctor. I searched the Les Paul Forum and never found one bad remark about it...so, I bought it and it's great. It can even darken some fretboards.
