08M3SedanSki
I just about what appears to be a 1969 J-50 based on the serial number and square shoulders and no Made in USA on headstock. It seems to have a 25.5" scale... would this be correct? Photos Thanks for any information.
ksdaddy
Yes. In 1969 Gibson dropped all round shoulders and went to square shoulder across the board (in the "standard" sized guitars I mean!) and also standardized the scale at 25.5".
pschaafs
I have one of those too! long scale and tiny at the nut (not to bring that conversation back up again...)
ballcorner
Have you heard about the new phosphate free dishwasher detergent that leaves your stemware smelling like rose petals?
Bruno
I also purchased a 1969 J50, in fact it features the 25 1/2 scale measurement. This guitar have a quite balanced and a deep rich tone, excellent playablity all across fretboard, making beautiful fingering nuances. Having a long scale will easier allow lowered tunings with that Gibson round tones.
pschaafs
I have one too! I always wondered why they went long scale on these? Another question on these - mine has no reinforcement along the back seam line, but I think I can see the seam on the back and the grain pattern matches on the inside and out. Were these solid wood backs or laminated backs, and if solid why no backstrip?
pschaafs
bump - anybody know about the backstrip reinforcement on these?
zombywoof
I may be wrong but I believe the only laminated bodies you found on a Gibson were maple body guitars like the J-200. I would guess what you are talking about on the J-50 just has something to to do with mass production and cost cutting.
