DrewNK Posted April 18, 2022 Share Posted April 18, 2022 Just got an old Gibson Ga-50 Amp from my grampa with two 6l6g tunes one 5v4g rectifier and two 6sj7 with two 6j5 preamp tunes. The Amp only makes a loud humming sound. Any idea how I can fix this up or any info at all would be great . Do I have to bias the tube replacements ? Grog Posted April 19, 2022 Share Posted April 19, 2022 (edited) It’s likely that the capacitor(s) needs replacing. The dielectric fluid in the bigger caps goes bad if it hasn’t been used in a long time. Many of these larger caps were two or three capacitors in one & need to be replaced with individual caps of the proper value. Here are a few pics of old & new caps on a GA-5T.....
