Thinking of some of the greatest riffs ever

Why don't you experiment and mix a Piano and a Organ with an Electric guitar to make your riff.

Listen to Whipping post by The Allman Brothers Band.

Sorry, but I burned out listening to Whippin' Post when it was new - I wore the record out.

I also don't think you understand the question.

What makes a good hook?

Sound?

Timing

syncopation

constipation

point/counter point

era of music it is heard?

and a host of other things

Sound and timing.

If you play Heartbreaker fast it will sound like a standard blues scale but when you slow the two notes down and Time the other 4 notes perfectly you get an awesome riff.

The Heartbreaker riff is not 6 notes but the first section that goes Dun Dun Doon Dun Dudu is.

Lock your self in your room...best advice i got from a guitarist.

Thats how the Stones manager got Kief and Mick writing. He locked them in a room and were told they weren't getting out until they had two decent songs written.
