Rocky4
I saw this seller on eBay and wondered why? http://myworld.ebay.com/gibsondependable/ They sell Gibsons that have been disassembled. Bodys with necks, pickups, etc...
Riffster
They started with Fender I believe then when the faded lines came out on Gibson they created a store for that. On the cheaper Gibsons you make a profit by selling the parts.
ksdaddy
Sometimes they're worth more dead than alive. I've seen nearly new Studios with no parts selling for over $500 and then did the math as to getting all the correct parts. I'll pass.
daveinspain
First off lots of people need parts. Second if you sell the parts of a guitar one by one you will make more money than selling a whole guitar. That's why some people sell a guitar and the guitar case separate. You can sell the guitar and include the case for free or sell the guitar for the same price and make even more money on the case. This happens much more with older or vintage parts and guitars. I bought the body and neck for my project LP from them... Got a great deal and I'm building my dream Les Paul.
L5Larry
Parting out perfectly good Gibsons for profit has become pretty popular in the last few years. To me it's a very sad thing, but the market for "vintage" parts has gone crazy, all started by the elusive PAF's. I've seen $300 truss rod covers, and $1000 cases. It's too bad there are actually people out there that are willing to pay these kinds of prices for the stuff. If nobody would pay the prices, they would stop chop-shoping the guitars.
