Dye from Gibson Case Lining

KL

Just wanted to let people know about this as it might help protect your beloved Gibson! A couple of years ago I decided to get a new case to use on the road with my 1970's Les Paul goldtop. The case it was in was a bit battered and I thought it would be better protected in a new one.

I bought a brand new genuine Gibson Les Paul case from a shop, and it had a black lining. After some time I noticed that the dark colour from the case lining was leeching into the (maple) neck of my Les Paul leaving it marked like cheap guitar stands can. I bought another case with a white lining and moved it into that. (I couldn't return the case with the dark lining as the shop I got it from had gone bankrupped).

Has anyone else ever had this problem?

Some of the white Gibsons were shipped from the factory wrapped in paper for that very reason.

Wonder why they didn't start using white fluff years ago...

When I got my double neck from Gibson, the case smelled so strong I had to store it in the garage the first week.

No kidding, it was BAD.

Not roadkill, just very strong odor from adhesive/paint/dye or something very volatile.

Seriously, if somebody had walked into my garage with a cigarette....

After airing out for a week, it's not too bad now.
