Californiaman
Hey Rocketman, I went to the Santa Maria Museum of Flight this morning with the 3rd graders. I thought you'd appreciate some of these. The Original Rocket Man The Business End of a Delta Rocket. Look Familiar? Liquid Rocket
rocketman
Looks like a great museum! The Delta Rocket has been a workhorse. Not bad considering its first launch (1960!) failed due to a fault attitude control system. Controlled liquid rockets were pioneered by Robert Goddard. Too bad he didn't get much recognition while he was alive (well, a lot of giants of their field didn't). Anyhow, thanks for sharing. Next time I'm out that way I'll check it out for sure... NeoConMan
My Dad was manning tactical nukes for the Army in the sixties and seventies. I always thought bigger was badder until I heard some of his stories. ANY rocket is a MONSTER if it doesn't behave as expected. Don't even think about the explosive - or nuclear - payload.... Hercules were the main ones I believe.
Californiaman
What I liked most was the older planes they had. Still, the jets were nice. They even had a bunch of commercial, American made planes. I used to work on the DC-10 and 11 as well as the MD-80 and 90 for McDonell Douglas before the plant closed down in Long Beach. Even then they were starting to build them in China. Pissed me off when I found out. Soon after that the company was gone.
