I saw the Who at Madison Square Garden many years ago, mid '70s. There were some "issues" with the sound system (mics cutting in and out). During the encore Mr. Daltry was doing his usual lasso tricks with the mic and simply let it go flying into the audience. The stage crew looked like a Keystone Kops comedy running off the stage into the audience trying to retrieve the mic.
