jrsdws
I am buying a bias probe from Eurotubes. Are the lower priced Craftsman Multimeters around $20 sufficient for one to check bias and plate voltage when changing power tubes?
tazzboy
That's what I have is a Sears craftsman meter
cwness
Yes that will work fine. I got my probes from them and they were very helpful also. CW
jrsdws
Do you have to have two of them for amps with two power tubes? One meter and probe on each socket to compare?
cwness
No you only need the one. I had to buy 2 different probes. My VM Marshall has different tubes then the older ones. What are you Biasing they have vids on the site that walk you right through and I called and asked questions while I was doing. They were glad to help. jrsdws
We have a Vintage Hiwatt Custom 50 and a Sovtek Mig 60 that both run EL34's....and my son is having a custom amp made by Lancaster Amplification that will run KT66's. I just want to learn to do it myself to save paying a tech...and give us the ability to try different tubes when we want, etc. Do you only need to take the readings from one socket or do you have to go back and forth and adjust on an average of the two? cwness
You just have to use one socket. I here what you saying you'll save a mint on doing it youself. I save a ton on it I have 4 tube amps. From what I understand from Eurotubes is that Biasing correctly gives you more life out of the tubes. Good luck CW
jrsdws
Excellent thanks for the help. Yeah and Eurotubes only guarantees their tubes if you bias yourself....if you take them to a third party for biasing they don't.
mcmurray
Just be aware that the accuracy for some of these cheap meters is very bad. Don't know if I'd trust them.
