SG special pickup question

Recommended Posts

I'm buying a '01 SG special from a friend. He replaced the 490r and 490t pickups with a seymour JB and a Seymour '59. The 490's are packed along with the guitar. I was looking at them and there does not seem to be a way to tell the difference between them visually, is there a way to tell the difference between them electrically? I might use them in another guitar.

Go to this web page;

... and you'll find this chart of comparative output.

Duncan (and other big-name pickups) are usually pretty damned hot compared to Gibson.

59, not so much, but the JB is a sizzler - relatively speaking.

Somewhere on the Seymour Duncan site they should list their outputs.

Under 10k ohms is more of a traditional Classic Rock/Vintage thing, the lower the better for my taste.

Over 10k starts getting into the shrill "metal" end of things.
