milod Posted May 18, 2010 Share Posted May 18, 2010 As one who has written for a relatively wide variety of English language publications outside the U.S., I'm always aware of how "dumb" I can be to certain things that are regional in terms of insulting, insensitive or even "crude" language. But what I've also learned is that most people are pretty understanding if one doesn't "get" their regionalisms. I think most of us can tell when there's no intent to insult. If we can't, we probably should grow up a bit. There is so much to talk about and to learn from the folks here. Robin N and L5Larry had super comments on the playing of jazz in a big band for a player who is looking into the possibility of that kind of gig. There would be a great loss to see that disappear into a more arcane forum that might bring the same comments from Robin and Larry, but it would be lost to a number of readers who might find that information of great interest now or at some point in their future.
