dgeorge
I am sure this has been discussed in the past but I could not locate anything. Do must of you prefer lights or mediums strings on your J-45 and do you prefer PBs or 80/20? Thanks, Dave
bscha
You are right, there will be multiple opinions on this. That being said, I have tried everything and prefer light gage Elixir PB's nanoweb the best. Great tone and long life. Enjoy your J-45, awesome guitars! sorad
daadario lights i tried these martin thin cores last week to see how they are......hated them I am thinking of trying a coated string but my thing is I break pretty often so it might get pricey
mking
I have been using the D'addario light guage on my J-45 TV. I put thier mediums on to see how they felt (I read John Hiatt uses mediums on his J-45s) and I didn't care for them. I went back the the lights. The coated strings on the market like are just too "in your face bright" for my taste. Plus if I play finger style my fingers slip all over the coated strings. I need something to grab on to so to speak.
SuperG
I have been very impressed by Curt Mangan medium-light PBs (12-54) and John Pearse light PBs (12-53) on my Southern Jumbo. Fantastic tone right out of the gate and the Mangan's in particular seem to last a particularly long time.
acoustic idiot
if you want something with playability, get elixir lights. sometimes i use ultra lights but they break too soon. if you want a rugged rusted sound, and don't mind calluses, get copper strings.
