Epiphone WildKat

Doth

Recommended Posts

AFIK the original Wildkats had an Epiphone "Bigsby style" tremolo, and the later ones (maybe around '05-'06 on) have a true non-American Bigsby tremolo.

As far as the Bigsby quality goes. I have 2 each of the American and the offshore (nobody is saying exactly where they are being made) Bigsby units and I have found no difference in quality or operation between them. The non-American models seem to operate as smoothly and hold tune as well as the American ones. Hopefully this helps.

As far as the veneer goes. I don't know. I don't own a Wildkat right now...

but I will...

... Oh yes... ...

... I will...

A wildkat is next on my GAS list !

Thanks for the info bug! I went to Guitar Showcase today and played a few Epi's. They had an Alleykat that was pretty cool. I love the 65 Casino Elitist. Even the standard Casino was very nice and a steal at $369, don't know why it was marked down so low.

I didn't get a chance to plug anything in as there was a bunch of highschoolers there playing their versions of EVH very loud, but I was looking at the build quality and feel. I will go to GC tomorrow and look for a WildKat. I am pretty sold on it for $499 at MF.

Thanks,

I recently acquired a WildKat with the natural finish. I have played this guitar several hours each day since I got it about a week ago. Here are a few pictures. I must say, for the $400 total I spent, I also got a case and 15% off with a Musicians Friend code. I am really quite happy with this instrument. It is a real beauty and sounds great with the stock Epiphone pickups. The "licensed" Bigsby works OK but I did back off the lock nut where the spring is about 1/8 turn. The handle bound up when folded back to put the guitar in the case. I pulled out the spring and used a pair of plyers to back off the nut slightly, stuck the spring back in and all works perfectly now.

No "photo" finish on this

Hello Everybody,

Does anybody have any experience with the WildKat? Is it a licensed Bigsby or the real deal? How was the finish on the guitar? Is it a maple vaneer or a photo type of finish?

Thank you,

Don

I've had my Wildkat for about 18 months and love it. This is about the best bang for the buck you can get. Fit and finish are pretty much spot on. I've had no issues with the Bigsby, although I did replace the p/u's about 6 months ago. Bridge just wouldn't work. Checked all the usual suspects but finally installed Lollar P90's. All in all, a great little guitar.

PS - the pic doesn't do the finish justice
