What does everyone here use for an overdrive for their EVJ?

For a while now I've been using a JH-F1 Silicon FuzzFace.

The only problem is, I can't use my wah along with it. Boo-erns!

Other then that, I great sound with a pair of GFS Mean 90's in my dot.

I just order a MI Audio Blues Pro and can't wait!!

I fyou take a look at my avatar, you'll see a electro harmonix LPB-1 boost in between my wah and FF.It works great as a buffer and allows use of the wah, but very fuzzy and muddy. Not really the transparent sound I was looking for.

I love the FF but, it's gets thick and muddy at high volumes.

I wish it had a tone option. I guess I could rob a bank to be able to afford an analogman sunface.

FWIW, I have pretty good luck with my BBE Boosta Grande. It pushes the front-end to my liking and seems to be pretty transparent as far as tone goes. But then, I'm playing a Tele and they're kind of thin to begin with. I got mine with my Vjr head and cab and I'm happy. Hope this helps you out some.

TS-9 is what I use. I've tried some others and always seem to come back to the tubscreamer....maybe I've been using one for so long I've just gotten use to it.

I use a Boss Eq for a clean transparent boost however...have been for years with great results. One of my favorite pedals too, so much other stuff you can do with one....LOL...probably bored some enough mentioning this before.

Got a BBE Boosta Grande also and like it, but I find the EQ to bit much more transparent though. To my ears the Boosta Grande adds some gain and bottom end the more you increase it....not bad but not what I want or need sometimes.

Another one I like allot, but with ZERO GAIN added , is a Boss Blues Driver....very nice clean boost IMO. Also gives you a bit of a treble boost....in a good way. As I said great IMO for clean boost, but to much gain can get really fizzy and harsh with a stock one....never tried a moded one but have heard some folks rave about one after the mods.

Gosh....so many out there makes a person's head spin.

BTW tele63, welcome to the Epi forum.

Not a buffer, but you're right that fuzzes don't always take well to all buffers. You need to either go directly to the fuzz first, or try a real buffer that's designed to work with a fuzz.

That's what they do. Keep the guitar volume rolled back a pinch, and it'll remain "open."

Here's a really great site to bookmark...this is the page on fuzzface mods, but he's got tons of great info.

Btw, the LPB-1, although a fun little boost, is far from transparent or "clean." The cleanest boost that I know of is Jack Orman's mosfet boost.

Commercially, it's known as this:

Although, a slight variation of the same circuit brings you here:
