Wiring!?!!

Hi,

just wondering, would upgrading the wiring and pots on my Chinese Casino actually make much difference to the sound?

I'm currently upgrading the Casino with a bigsby, new tuners etc but the neck pick up is slightly muddy... I was kinda hoping that a wiring upgrade would solve this without having to replace the pickups as they sound (overall) pretty cool especially the bridge

Thanks

It's all in the ear of the beholder. I'd say upgrading pots and wiring will not do as much as changing PUs...

Any chance of clearing the mud raising the PU a little?

Yes I think i'm going to raise the pole pieces (or lower them) try so see if i can solve the problem the casino may need a bit of a tweak.

It's not an unpleasant sound it just doesn't have the clarity I was hoping for especially in comparison with the bridge.

Try raising the pickup. I find most of my Epi's are a little too bright so I have my pickups set pretty low. I also find that your tone also depends on the amp you are using. Fenders are very bright while my Peavey Classic 50 with 4X10's is mellower.

The pots and wiring will do very little. Your pots should be 500k.

Your neck pickup will never be as bright as the bridge. That is the beauty of dual humbuckers. Try setting both volume controls to the same volume, say 3 or 4. Listen to the sound. It can be the sweet sound on your guitar. I generally leave the volumes set the same and uset the individual pickups for lead work.
