Modifying Natural Elitist Casino to a 'Revolution' style Casino

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum...I've just purchased an Elitist Casino in Natural. I had a choice between the Elitist and the Lennon Revolution, and whilst I'm a huge Beatles nut and I'd actually saved enough money to pay for the Revolution, I opted for the Elitist.

My reasoning behind this being I tour and gig a lot, and what I need in a new Casino is a great sounding workhorse guitar that I'm not afraid to have slightly scratched or nicked in the line of duty, so to speak! I was slightly worried that if I bought the Revolution (which let's face it is more of a collector's guitar than a touring guitar, unless I were Noel Gallagher or Steve Earle) I'd opt to leave it at home in fear of having it damaged.

However, being the Beatles nerd that I am, I'd still like to mod my Elitist to look as close as it possibly can to the Revolution or Lennon '68 Casino.

Taking the scratchplate off is the obvious first step!

I don't know if I can justify refinishing it in nitro. I'll be doing 4 or 5 gigs a week so it'll wear over time I'm sure, do you think having the poly gloss slightly dulled will suffice?

Are the stock standard Gold Grovers the machine heads to replace the stock Epi tuners with?

Have I done the right thing in opting for the Elitist? I really hope I've made the right decision based on my predicament and needs for my new Casino....and I hope you guys can help me out here!

Have you done the right thing? Only YOU know that! As to modding it, to look the part, why not, if you want to?!

It's your guitar, do what you want to do. You'll never be John Lennon, anyway...no one else will either. But, I

understand the reverence, truly. So, you can lightly sand, or scotchbrite the finsih, matte! No need to refinish it

in "Nitro," for just the "look." You can find the little black goof ring, for the pickup switch, on E-bay, quite often.

The standard "gold" Grover "Rotomatic" tuners would be a good option, for the later version of Lennon's guitar.

To be accurate...In the "Revolution," film clip, and even the "Rooftop" Beatles concert, he still had the stock Kluson

tuners, attached. So, the "Revolution" moniker is a somewhat misleading term, for his "stripped of finish" version.

I (personally) think you did the right thing, as a "player," in getting the Elitist, and then just modifying it. The "Lennon"

version IS (primarily) a "collector's" edition...even if some do play it, "on the road," so to speak. It will, most likely,

appreciate in value, once/IF they ever stop making them? The Elitist may keep it's value, due to inflation, if for no

other reason, but it won't be the "collectible" that the "Lennon" models, are/will be.

So, have fun, mod away, and create your own "Revolution" in the process. *Rock could certainly use some of THAT,

nowadays! (*editorial statement) ;>)

I have a Casino Elitist that I did up like John Lennons Revolution. I changed out the truss rod cover for the "E" cover but its a 3 holer as I didn't want to fill and drill new holes for the 2 holer. I found the black neoprene switch washer on ebay and put the little black washer under the little screw next to the neck of the guitar. Changed out the chrome Grovers for the gold Grovers. Thats it! I'll never get it to replicate JL's guitar exactly but I came as close to it as I could and am satisified with the look. Just my .02 cents.

Don`t forget the Nylon bridge saddles, the longer heavier six inch Trapeze tailpiece, and the Blue Kalamazoo label. Or you could leave it as it is, the Elitist Casino is a fine guitar.

OR... you can leave it as is to be just like Dwight Yoakum! He plays (or played not sure if he still uses it) a Casino Elitist. Of course he got it because John Lennon played a Casino. At least that's what the Epiphone propaganda says. :D

Hello: Can you tell me where you got the truss rod cover? I have a 1964 Elitist, and it takes the larger cover, but I can't find them anywhere. I really don't care if it's 2-screw or 3.

I've removed the big bulky "E" from the pickguard, and replaced it with a foil one....looks good.

I had the black rings custom made, and have the rest of them for sale on eBay. All I wanted was one for my Casino, but I had to get a minimum number of them made, so I'm trying to get some of that back.

Thanks,
